I DO?

Beautiful Brenna McGuire is at it again, completely cornering the bridal market with her second BRIDES Magazine cover this year! We were so lucky to book her for our womenswear editorial last year --- and in the future when DEIVIE is ready to debut a wedding collection we know who to call! Congrats Brenna --- absolutely lovely!

Approaching the Days of Dolls

presently I am wholly inspired by the idea of tragic glamour -- stemming from the line in Donnie Darko (citing Graham Greene's The Destructors) that claims, "destruction is a form of creation."

alike how something beautiful and perfect captitvates us ---  how perfect it is; how put together; how secure -- we are equally drawn to that something beautiful falling apart, changing into something unfamiliar; creating something perhaps even more enlivening in its demise.

it's as if its start -- that amazing appeal --- left only as clandestine flickers fighting through a glazed haze -- is almost immortal; as if that force is so powerful that it is too difficult, too exerting, for us to forget.

there are layers and layers deep, but what was originally there can't quite be fully hidden... and it's that glimpse of the past, that flash of what once was, regret permeating through the flashes, that is tragic.

"You have to climb Mount Everest to reach the Valley of the Dolls,
It's a brutal climb to reach that peak,You stand there, waiting for the rush of exhilaration but it doesn't come,You're alone. And the feeling of loneliness is overpowering..." -- Jacqueline Susann - Valley of the Dolls

Beautiful Disaster

found a time ago on the street --
the ideal of love and trash, perfection and self-destruction -- existing at once... almost creating beauty in their fusion... almost more beautiful together than  apart.....but only through the shock of their cohabitation...only by the shock that they hadn't yet destroyed each other...

2011 Claims

i prefer to call them claims than "resolutions" as the latter seems so forced....so permanent.... !!!

in actuality I rarely RESOLVE (consciously. logically) to do something and THEN act accordingly... instead i somehow convince myself...through guilt or trickery and guile... unconsciously... consciously...subconsciously (are there any other kinds?)... with outlandish statements ("i'm never partying again" ... "I will not eat sweets until easter"),  wild claims that are the extreme of what i want to achieve-- that somehow, with focus and self-control, get broken down and proliferate into my new life. the new me. the upgrade.

this year i'm simplifying it as my astrologer told me not to overwhelm myself with so many goals and to focus (just kidding -- 'twas just my "horoscope" app ... gotta love smartphones) :)
